JAZZ.FM91 Program Cards

JAZZ.FM91 is a not-for-profit, community radio station in Toronto, and Canada’s only 24-hour jazz station. In 2018, I served as their designer and web editor while my colleague Matthew McKinnon and I redesigned the station’s website and their online editorial/content strategy, respectively.

Part of the task, then, with a new website that had a much more prominent visual profile, was to develop brief identities for JAZZ.FM91’s on-air programs, concerts and community initiatives that, since this is an audio medium, had not received much visual treatment.

The goal, then, was to create a unique identity for each program that reflected the character of the show and its host, while adhering to a quickly identifiable design. Jazz, as a genre, has a deep aesthetic history to draw from, and the work below alludes to the shaped grotesque typography of Reid Miles’s album covers, and the occasional abstraction like the Command Record’s Stereo Check Out LP.

Each of these can be scaled up for various printing needs, like these retractable banners below.
